What is Ozone Therapy?

The treatment was pioneered by an American physician Dr Frank Shellebergen. The name “Prolozone Therapy” is derived from Latin word “prolix” which means to proliferate regenerate and rebuild.
How can Prolozone Therapy help me?
Injured ligaments cause pain. Ligaments are the structural “rubber bands” that hold bones, joints, and intervertebral discs together, ligaments can become weak or injured from injury, excessive use, or surgery, and often do not heal back to their original strength and tightness.
Prolozone TherapyTM involves the injection of
ozone in and around ligaments where they attach
to the bone. Injected ozone increases the blood
supply and now of healing nutrients.
More importantly, it also stimulates the deposition and
activity of fibroblasts and chondroblasts.
These cells synthesize the collagen and cartilage that the
body uses to repair damaged ligaments and joints.
This cellular repair strengthens and tightens the injured tissues stabilizing them and removing the cause of the pain.
About Your Treatment
The response to treatment varies from individual to individual and depends upon your healing ability and level of injury. Some people may only need one or two treatments, whilst others will require more.
After the first few treatments, your therapist will assess how you are responding, and advise you regarding
further treatments.
The injection process is repeated every 1-2 weeks until maximum improvement is achieved. Prolozone Therapy can results in a complete absence of symptoms, even in patients that have had symptoms for a number of years.

What Does a Treatment Plan involve?
Ozone is injected into the soft tissue of a pre-identified painful area. The ozone enters the area, it doesn’t have to be ultra-specific as it spreads throughout the adjacent tissues. Ozone enters the cells and basically fires the cells into working again, reducing pain and starting a healing process. There is no limit on injections and no reported side effects like cortisone.
How many sessions will I need?
Because the injections start a repair process it works with 90% of people and 75% don’t need to come back. However this does depend on the severity of the problem and the length of time you have had the issue.
What is the difference between Prolozone and Cortisone injections?
Prolozone is a non surgical treatment which works to repair and heal connective tissue around joints. Cortisone is more of a treatment to mask the pain of the condition, without addressing any underlying issue.
How long does Prolozone take to work?
We have had many patients who feel the benefit of treatment immediately. However, most of the healing happens after 24-48 hours and depends upon the patient. If there is continued pain more injections may be required.
